MAPPING FESTIVAL

Les Vagues | performance transdisciplinaire - Kultur und Spektakel

The transdisciplinary performance "Les Vagues" is the result of the collaboration between several artists from Geneva: the dancer and artist Lucie Eidenbenz, the visual artist collective Robert Turner, and the sound artist Daniel Maszcowicz. It was developed in residence during the Mapping Festival 2023, especially for the Syllepse device. Don't miss this unique performance on Thursday, May 25 at 8pm.   From the virtual world to extended reality (XR) and augmented reality, immersive environments occupy an important place in the digital arts. The Mapping Festival has chosen to explore the relationship between the tangible and virtual worlds by investing a 200 m2 audio-visual space: Syllepse, a 22-meter diameter tank, equipped with 22 projectors, allowing a 360° projection around the audience. Several performances, concerts and films are presented there, combining different mediums to plunge the public into unique and collective sensory journeys.   The Waves is an immersive, poetic and multisensory experience, which takes us on a journey inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel-poem. How to evoke the deep affects that run through us, beyond words? The dance comes as a plunge into the heart of vivid sensations that manifest themselves in all their intensity. The waves then break in sound, light and electromagnetic waves.   At the beginning, Lucie Eidenbenz had a lightning encounter with Virginia Woolf's "The Waves". From this reading and from the sensations that it brought to light, states of the body forming a choreography, a sound creation and video images emerged at the same time. The performance stages these three mediums that respond to and interact with each other. The artists create an immersive device where the sound is spatialized and interacts with the dancer and her position in the space. The video images are created beforehand and adjusted live to react to the movements and sounds. Finally, the dancer's body states are directly influenced by the atmosphere created by the sound and the projected images. There is a strong interdependence of the three mediums which evolve in a triangulation.   Duration : about 45 mn
