CHERKAOUI Sidi Larbi - Faun / Noetic
Château Rouge
La Bâtie - Festival de Genève
He embodies dance in the present and the mixing of genres. He is said to be a magician. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, the new director of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre, presents on the magnificent stage of Château Rouge two works that are emblematic of his transformations: Faun and Noetic.
From Nijinsky’s Faun, the choreographer has revived the colours, textures and sounds with Faun in 2009, inviting composer Nitin Sawhney to echo Debussy with his own musical language. Hussein Chalayan designed the costumes accompanying the dancers’ movements in intense and contemporary sensuality. In 2015 Noetic, his fourth collaboration with Antony Gormley, evoked the intuitive paths of knowledge. The visual artist designed flexible carbon fibre slats to underline the fluidity of the dance, percussion and voices. A splendid dive into the complexity of thought, Noetic distils a touch of humanity into science. Together with Faun, they are the two sides of a night that makes the new repertoire of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre shine.
