La Bâtie introduced us to Cherish Menzo last year in Jezebel, a first opus danced like a manifesto for the liberation of the black body. Inspired by post-humanism and Afrofuturism, DARKMATTER stages a new economic, social and political balance in the bodies of Cherish Menzo and Camilo Mejía Cortés, who erase the dark to reinvent it. From this indefinite magma, the alienating rap anthems performed alongside with the Distorted Rap Choir, slowed down, over-articulated and stretched sounds slowly disintegrate and leave the duo with their autonomy, time and space.
