Poulpe Festival 2026: 20 years of the Tchiki duo Canto Ostinato – by the Mallet Collective Ramon Lormans / Georgi Tsenov / Mathias Cochard / Jacques Hostettler & Nicolas Suter (Tchiki duo) Light projection by Compagnie Lumen Founded in 2006 by Jacques Hostettler and Nicolas Suter, the Tchiki duo is now regarded as the world’s leading marimba duo. Their artistic development, driven by their friendship, passion and sensitivity, has brought them into close association with the greatest marimba soloists, composers and teachers, in particular Keiko Abe, Nebojsa J. Zivkovic, David Friedman, Peter Prommel and Gordon Stout. They expect Tchiki duo to make a major contribution to the development of the marimba duo. Their exceptional sound and musicality have earned them recognition from numerous renowned artists, including pianists, singers, violinists and directors, all of whom highlight their astonishing artistic achievement. Playing two similar instruments, the Tchiki Duo impresses and captivates audiences by blending into a single, unified sound, delivering a unique duo performance that embodies a true art form of its time. Since its debut at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2016, the Mallet Collective has established itself as a leading figure on the international music scene, constantly introducing new sounds. Whether in concert halls or unusual venues, the ensemble captivates audiences with its vibrant exploration of the rich sonic world of melodic percussion. Performing in various line-ups, the collective comes together to create musical spaces imbued with curiosity and a spirit of discovery. Bridging the gap between classical tradition and contemporary aesthetics, the ensemble has developed a unique sound, driven by a shared passion for the marimba and a tireless quest for tonal refinement. Founded by Ramon Lormans with the aim of enriching the repertoire for marimba and vibraphone, the collective works closely with composers such as Blaise Mettraux, Sarah Neutkens, Jacob ter Veldhuis, Anthony Fiumara, Aart Strootman, Jo Sporck, Greg Saunier and Anne-Maartje Lemereis. Alongside their own compositions, the ensemble regularly commissions new works that showcase its instruments in ever-original ways. It has performed at renowned festivals such as the TROMP Percussion Festival, the World Minimal Music Festival, the KALIMA Festival Lausanne, the Hiroshima Marimba Festival and the Stuttgart International Marimba Competition.
