Description

Born in 1977 in Zag Soum, Bayankhongor Province, Mongolia, Batzorig Vaanchig is today one of the most respected representatives of Mongolian throat singing (khöömii) and traditional nomadic music. He pursued a career at the prestigious Mongolian National Art Theatre before co-founding the Khusugtun group in 2009, which has become one of the most internationally acclaimed Mongolian ensembles. The Mongolian government awarded him the Order of the Polar Star (Altan Gadas), the highest state honor, for his contribution to the preservation and transmission of Mongolian cultural heritage. A deeply committed artist, Batzorig also founded a children's center in Ulaanbaatar dedicated to teaching morin khuur, convinced that Mongolian culture must be passed on to future generations. He is now presenting his solo project in Europe for the first time. In the exceptional acoustics of Romainmôtier Abbey, he will bring to life the khöömii, the morin khuur, and other traditional instruments such as the tovshuur, inviting the audience on a sonic journey to the heart of Mongolia's boundless landscapes. His voice, capable of producing multiple harmonics simultaneously, evokes the winds of the steppes, the gallop of a horse, and the depths of the mountains. A rare, authentic, and profoundly immersive experience, born from a millennia-old nomadic tradition.
