EMOH LEEF TURNS 1 ! - Concerts

The cultural Atelier EMOH LEEF is preparing to celebrate its first anniversary with an exceptional festive day combining concerts, DJ sets, artist encounters and homemade gastronomy. Born from the desire to create a space where local and international artists can meet, experiment and share their practice, EMOH LEEF has established itself over twelve months as a distinctive presence within Neuchâtel’s cultural landscape. For this anniversary, the Atelier has brought together several artist friends, starting with Valencian musician Xavi Gómez. A gifted author, composer, producer and performer, Xavi moves through jazz, funk, pop, flamenco and soul with disarming ease. A true favourite of the Atelier, he is described as a supercharged Brazilian Donny Hathaway arriving straight from Spain. His solo concert for acoustic guitar and voice promises a colourful and dynamic journey, warm, radiant and sincere. A Welcome Talk will then gather the day’s artists for an informal introduction, offering the audience privileged access to the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of this special anniversary. At the heart of the programme is the performance by the Ensemble MPC, “Mouvements des Parties Cool”, led by Geneva-based pianist Gabriel Zufferey. Created especially for the occasion, the group brings together some of the most inventive creators on today’s Swiss scene, including Killian Perret Gentil on guitar, Ben Jaton on double bass, Cyril Regamey on drums and percussion, along with surprise guests. Together they explore a sound world where jazz, soul and free improvisation intertwine moment by moment. Their musical language draws on an extensive heritage, from Alvin Queen to Seamus Blake, enriched by contemporary voices such as BC Manjunath and his non conventional rhythmic approach. The performance will also be marked by the return of London singer Ruby Francis, who inaugurated the Atelier during its very first event. She returns to EMOH LEEF to perform works from her new album Pages of Philosophy, joining the Ensemble MPC on stage before taking to the decks for a DJ set infused with soul, future beats and neo R&B. To open the celebrations and guide the transitions between the live sets, DJ and vinyl collector Palouk, a long time friend of the Atelier, will curate a selection of finely chosen records. The event will close with a major figure of the London scene, IG Culture. A visionary producer, pioneer of broken beat and co founder of the legendary CoOp Club at Plastic People, IG Culture is one of the most influential architects of British electronic and hybrid music. A collaborator of projects such as Bugz In The Attic and NameBrandSound, founder of the CoOp Presents label and resident on Rinse FM, he has shaped more than three decades of independent music. For his first appearance in Neuchâtel, he brings the unmistakable energy of London’s club culture, syncopated rhythms, deep bass lines and a strong communal spirit. A direct immersion into Broken Beat culture, guided by one simple and powerful idea, Music First ! As always, EMOH LEEF will offer a homemade culinary moment that has become a defining part of its identity. Muy Modesta, Evaristo and Tomas, present since the very beginning, will prepare their emblematic Paella on site, served against the backdrop of the Mural MODO N°68 recently created with artist ELTONO, adding a visual and warm dimension to the celebration. With this anniversary day, EMOH LEEF reaffirms its role as a cultural catalyst, a place where artists, residents and audiences meet freely, in a creative, human and positively surprising atmosphere. It is a way to honour a first chapter already rich with stories and to continue the next under the sign of sharing, rhythm and the unexpected, cultivating an energy that spreads, brings people together and inspires confidence.
