Les 7 Péchés capitaux - Concerts

The deadly sins have fuelled the imagination of artists down the centuries. A little theatre of the great human emotions, this programme leads us to reflect deeply on the nature of emotions and suggests that Claudio Monteverdi, who became a priest at the end of his life, was perhaps one of the only artists to have understood the origin of human passions and to have sublimated them in music. Cappella Mediterranea proposes to explore how the torments of love in the madrigals, the nobility of purpose in L'Orfeo, the innovation of the Vespers, the conservatism of his masses and ‘moral’ madrigals, the adventurous spirit of Ulisse in The Return of Ulisse to his Homeland and, finally, the inspiration for one of the most amoral pieces in the history of music, The Coronation of Poppea, all coexisted in the same man.   DISTRIBUTION Mariana Flores, soprano Coline Dutilleul, mezzo-soprano Christopher Lowrey, countertenor Valerio Contaldo, tenor Matthew Newlin, tenor Andreas Wolf, bass Leonardo García Alarcón, harpsichord and organ Cappella Mediterranea
