Brother and sister: The MendelssohnsLes Rencontres Musicales de Champéry welcome the Sinfonia Valais-Wallis to the Palladium for a grand symphonic evening honoring Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, brother and sister united by the same musical genius. Under the direction of Laurent Zufferey, a conductor with a well-established career, the program opens with Fanny Mendelssohn's Overture in C major, a brilliant and elegant piece of early Romanticism that has long remained in the shadows. Violinist Sebastian Bohren, a soloist of international renown, then performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3, a luminous and virtuoso work of the great repertoire. In the second half, Felix Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony No. 4 unfurls its energy and brilliance. This dialogue between Fanny's music and that of her brother sheds light on an essential page of European Romanticism, carried by a group with an established reputation, recently invited to the Paléo Festival.
