Description
In botany, a rhizome refers to an underground stem that spreads horizontally and develops into a living, sustainable plant network. In philosophy, particularly among the thinkers of ‘French Theory’ Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, the rhizome becomes an image of thought: an open, non-hierarchical and interconnected model, like the plant from which it takes its name. This idea inspired the ensemble Rhizomes, driven by the creativity of Geneva-based musician Yaël Miller. The group offers a series of creations that draw on the richness of cultures that are both similar and different, often perceived as opposites, in order to reveal their points of convergence and common resonances. Through a sensitive musical universe, at the crossroads of contemporary folk, world music and poetic song, Rhizomes explores universal themes such as internal exile, belonging, memory, transformation and resilience.
