Description
L'Erismena, in its first Italian version, was first performed in Venice in 1655 by Francesco Cavalli: it is therefore one of the first operas of the Baroque era, but above all it is probably the first opera to have been translated into English and perhaps even to have been performed in England. Its manuscript score, complete with English libretto, was rediscovered in a private library in 2008, along with a unique prologue. The Cité Bleue and the HEM have set up a study workshop lasting several months - a major investment in the professional training of students in the Early Music Department - to train singers and musicians in the performance style of the period and stage the first European performance of Cavalli's Erismena. PROGRAMME Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676) Erismena (English version of 1673) dramma per musica in a prologue and three acts libretto by Aurelio Aureli DISTRIBUTION Students of the Early Music Department of the HEM Leonardo García Alarcón, conductor Jacopo Raffaele, assistant conductor In partnership with La Haute École de Musique de Genève.
