Barrage de Verbois
Elargis tes Horizons Genève
For girls aged between 10 and 18 Welcome to the Verbois dam - a jewel of engineering and nature in the heart of the canton of Geneva! Inaugurated in 1944, the Verbois dam is the main hydroelectric facility on the Rhône in Geneva. A cornerstone of the local energy transition, it supplies almost 466 GWh of electricity every year, or around 15% of the canton's total consumption. A feat that combines performance, sustainability and respect for the environment. But Verbois is more than just a power station! It's also a place for life and biodiversity. Thanks to its fish pass, many species can cross the dam in complete safety, promoting the ecological continuity of the river. As for its reservoir, every winter it becomes a haven of peace for migratory birds, also attracting nature and photography enthusiasts. --> Whether you're curious to go behind the scenes of green energy production or simply looking for a walk along the water, the Verbois dam proudly opens its doors to you.
