Agroscope Changins
Elargis tes Horizons Genève
For girls aged between 10 and 18 Welcome to Agroscope – where science becomes an adventure! Are you curious and love discovering amazing things? Then you’re in the right place! Agroscope is the agricultural research center of the Swiss Confederation. Every day, we work to invent the agriculture of tomorrow: more respectful of the environment, healthier, and above all, smarter. And today, you get to step into this exciting world! You’re about to explore a building like no other – with state-of-the-art laboratories, greenhouses full of plants with a thousand secrets, and experimental fields where ideas for the future are being tested. But that’s not all… With us, you’ll dive into a world invisible to the naked eye: the world of microscopic fungi. Not the kind you cook – no, these are mysterious fungi, sometimes helpful, sometimes formidable… As we like to say here: “The fungus begins where the eye stops.” You’ll observe them under the microscope, cultivate them, study them You’ll extract their DNA, transfer filaments under a sterile hood, observe strange blobs under the microscope, and explore the world of cheese in a whole new way… You’ll also take cuttings from plants, because fungi sometimes get the bad idea to attack our crops! In the end, you’ll leave with samples of what you created yourself – and more importantly, with a whole new perspective on the world. We can’t wait to welcome you! See you soon behind the scenes of science and fungi! MEETING TIME: 13H50 Train accompaniment is available – contact us to learn more. Depending on available space, some parents may be able to accompany the girls. This will be decided on site. This activity is organised by Elargis tes Horizons (ETH). As a not-for-profit association, we are dedicated to providing girls with experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Around 10 times a year, we offer scientific activities or visits in the Geneva region. They are usually held on Wednesday afternoons and are open to girls aged between 10 and 18.
