For several years now, controversial advances in the fields of generative artificial intelligence models have enabled a number of tools to be democratized and permanently installed in our creative processes. As designers, it's now more important than ever to understand how these tools work and the ramifications they have on our creative fields. While tools such as Dall-e and Midjourney are only available as online services hosted in the cloud, Stable diffusion will stand out from the crowd when it is released in 2022, allowing everyone to host their own version of the diffusion model and opening up all its code for free to the open source community. In the hands of the public, the model will undergo dizzying growth and transform into what is today one of the most complete generative authoring tools. It boasts unparalleled granularity of user control.
