Abbatiale de Payerne
Association des Concerts de Payerne
J.S. Bach: St John Passion As part of the series of Good Friday concerts inaugurated in 2024 to mark the 300th anniversary of the St John Passion - a series that consists of offering the public each year the Passion that Bach had performed in Leipzig 300 years earlier - the Association des Concerts de Payerne is delighted to present Sebastian Bach's Johannespassion in an unusual version. Thanks to the collaboration of the Chamber Choir of the University of Fribourg and its conductor Pascal Mayer, Payerne audiences will be able to hear the second version of the work, which is profoundly different from the first or the usual version. Bach wrote new opening and closing choruses and several new arias for the 1725 version. Fortunately, the complete orchestral material for this version has been preserved, and it is on the basis of this testimony that the Payerne concert can be performed...
