Description
EMOH LEEF is delighted to welcome Brazilian pianist, composer and arranger André Marques, a leading figure in contemporary Brazilian instrumental music, for a truly special and exclusive solo piano concert. With a career spanning over 30 years, 21 albums and six Latin Grammy Award nominations, André Marques has developed a distinctive musical language at the crossroads of jazz, Brazilian popular traditions and improvisation. Since 1994, he has shared an extraordinary musical journey with the legendary Hermeto Pascoal, creator of Música Universal, whose free-spirited and visionary approach to music has profoundly shaped his artistic path. A tireless composer and musical explorer, André Marques is also the founder of several remarkable ensembles, including Trio Curupira, established in 1996, and Vintena Brasileira, a 21-piece orchestra created in 2003. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with internationally renowned musicians such as John Patitucci, Brian Blade and Milton Nascimento, forging an artistic identity that is both deeply rooted and open to the world. For this intimate concert, André Marques invites us into his personal musical universe through a repertoire blending original compositions, improvisations and reinterpretations. From forró, a popular musical tradition deeply rooted in Brazilian culture, to the harmonies of contemporary jazz, his piano becomes a space for dialogue between rhythms, emotions and traditions. The programme spans different periods of his career, featuring music from his Forró de Piano project, alongside new compositions and tributes to Hermeto Pascoal. Moving between contemplative passages and vibrant rhythmic explorations, each piece leaves room for spontaneity and freedom of expression. More than a recital, this evening is an invitation to embark on a musical journey through the extraordinary richness of Brazil, where memory, creativity and the passing on of musical traditions come together. This concert continues a series of musical encounters dedicated to Brazil presented by EMOH LEEF throughout the year, featuring artists such as Mariana Zwarg, Ana Malta and Oscar Aldama, among others who have collaborated with the legendary Hermeto Pascoal, affectionately known as O Bruxo (The Wizard). Through these diverse artistic personalities and musical sensibilities, EMOH LEEF continues to explore the richness and diversity of Brazilian music, while celebrating the living legacy of this visionary composer and the artistic connections that bring together generations of musicians. True to its mission of bringing cultures and generations together, EMOH LEEF offers another special opportunity to experience an internationally acclaimed artist up close, in a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that encourages attentive listening, genuine connection and meaningful exchanges between artists and audiences.
