The Basel Jazz Orchestra is one of Switzerland’s most exciting and innovative young big bands. Comprising 18 professional musicians from around the world and performing music written by the orchestra’s own forward-thinking “BJO Composers Collective” — a group of local and international composers — the ensemble is dedicated to reimagining jazz and contemporary big band music for the 21st century. Since 2023, the BJO has held a regular monthly residency at the renowned Bird’s Eye Jazz Club in Basel, building a strong reputation for artistic excellence and original programming.   In 2025, the orchestra returns to Villars for the second time after a successful debut in 2023. For this special concert within the concert series at Aiglon College, the BJO will feature vocalists and take the audience on a journey through the rich history of jazz — from classic swing-era big band pieces to bold, modern works. At a time when big bands are increasingly rare due to their size and complexity, the BJO proudly stands out as a vibrant, creative force — not only in the Swiss jazz scene, but internationally through its work and its diverse, global lineup.
