cabaret YIDDISHOKL - Concerts

The Yiddishokl musical revives the golden age of Yiddish cabarets in the 1950s through songs by artists from Eastern, Central and Oriental Europe. After making their debut on stages in Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Austria and the Soviet Union, these artists left their homelands for France, the ‘land of human rights’. They took their culture and language with them to the cafés, theatres, music halls and cabarets of Paris. These cosy meeting places brought emigrants together. They ate, drank, discussed politics and listened to great performers who fused Yiddish melodies with fashionable musical styles from Argentina, Brazil and Cuba, such as samba, tango and swing. With a mix of song, music, dance and humour, the multidisciplinary Yiddishokl show presents a society in the throes of change, and takes the form of a festive evening.
