Description
Emmanuelle DE NEGRI soprano Marion MARTINEAU viola da gamba Brice SAILLY harpsichord Excerpts from the collection Orpheus Britannicus devoted to the music of Henry PURCELL (1659–1695) After the death of Henry Purcell in 1695, the London musical world honoured his memory through the publication of his works. Among these, Henry Playford edited Orpheus Britannicus in 1698, from which this concert presents numerous excerpts. Thanks to these three exceptional musicians, we quietly step into the workshop of one of the most endearing and singular composers of the 17th century. The programme explores the various forms of writing then in vogue, from ground songs to theatrical scenes, all performed in Old English.
