Shakespeare songs - Concerts - Église réformée Notre-Dame de Payerne

Description

The Payerne Concert Association is delighted to welcome the Emocio Vocal Ensemble for a concert entitled ‘Shakespeare Songs’, a selection of choral works inspired by texts from the great English playwright, composed by composers from the 16th to the 20th centuries, accompanied by actor Yann Pugin reading some of Shakespeare’s finest passages. The voice of William Shakespeare will resonate through monologues that speak of his own vision of the world and the art of theatre. Through the characters of his comedies and tragedies – "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", "As You Like It", "Much Ado About Nothing", "The Tempest", "The Merchant of Venice", "Hamlet" or "Macbeth", his sharp insight into his contemporaries will shine through – the very insight that makes him still universal today. In the second part, comprising songs about love, it is only natural that these should be echoed by some of the magnificent sonnets Shakespeare dedicated to his own feelings, which have been set to music down through the ages.
