A child of the diaspora, Marc Crofts is breathing new life into a forgotten klezmer repertoire with this project.Bringing together virtuoso musicians from Switzerland, France, Poland and Bulgaria, the violinist's ensemble performs an original programme. Marc's arrangements are the fruit of his research into the klezmer tradition and are based on transcriptions dating from the beginning of the last century. Within these pieces, folk elements enter into a dialogue with tradition and the more modern tools available to the instrumentalists. The resulting universe is nourished by the background of each artist: classical music, jazz, Balkan music, etc... In a Ukrainian tune, there are Turkish influences, a Greek introduction to a Yiddish song, or a jazz improvisation that slipped in quite naturally. This unique blend reflects the constant cultural exchange that music allows, beyond political and religious conflicts. In this way, knowledge of different traditions enriches a truly modern and personal vision of klezmer.
