Inspired by the life of Gofefo Konaté, from Burkina Faso, this performance is a song, a soft wave that transcends time to reconnect with ancient wisdom. It's a true offering: a sensory journey that celebrates the living mosaic of Sambla culture. Through this artistic endeavour, we hope to build a meaningful intercultural dialogue for audiences. Our goal is to create a space for exchange where African and European cultures can meet, and to introduce unique and fresh musical sounds. Each note of the balafon forges links across generations, transforming sadness into happiness, so let's listen together to its message... The Heart of the ProjectAt the core of this vibrant project, Gofefo Konaté's vision is paramount. As a contemporary griot and custodian of Sambla culture, he guides every aspect. With the backing of Educafon, an organisation dedicated to using education and music for social cohesion, "Blades of Joy" (Lames de joie) champions solidarity, cultural heritage, and mutual respect. Through engaging workshops, the public will explore the vital role of griots – musicians, storytellers, and community leaders – while learning about the rich sounds of the balafon and djembe. Gofefo Konaté embodies a connection between oral tradition and modern life, ensuring every interaction is a genuine moment of sharing. "Blades of Joy" is a truly unifying project, full of humanity and purpose. We're appealing to cultural organisations, sponsors, and businesses to back this important initiative, so we can collectively highlight the beauty of cultural diversity. Let's celebrate the richness of cultural diversity together and make "Blades of Joy" sing out!
