Mongolian Cultural Day: Buuvei – Music, Arts & Rituals Five distinguished individuals with complementary backgrounds, united by a shared mission: to preserve, share, and celebrate Mongolian culture through a unique blend of academic knowledge, artistic practice, and living traditions. Together, they offer experiences that are both intellectually enriching, emotionally engaging, and accessible to audiences of all ages. Speakers & Artists Khishig-Erdene GONCHIG – Founder of Buuvei Rather than focusing on what makes cultures different, Khishig-Erdene highlights the connections they share through lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and educational projects. A trained teacher, she has been building bridges between Mongolian cultural heritage and European culture for over 20 years. Convinced that art and culture bring people together, she invites you to discover an authentic, vibrant, and deeply human Mongolia. Khishigjargal NOROLKHOOJAV – Shaman Founder of the Khökh Tamgat Center, Khishigjargal is the heir to an ancestral shamanic lineage. She shares Mongolia's spiritual traditions through an approach that is both faithful to its roots and open to the contemporary world. Invited to numerous festivals and international gatherings, she offers a vision where spirituality, respect for nature, and ancestral wisdom come together. A rare opportunity to discover a living tradition at the heart of Mongolian culture. Soyol-Erdene TUMURTOGTOKH – Visual Artist Professor of Fine Arts, Soyol-Erdene portrays contemporary Mongolia through her paintings, where nomadic heritage meets modern urban life. A graduate of the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture and a member of the Mongolian Artists' Union, she has exhibited both in Mongolia and internationally. Her sensitive artistic vision invites visitors to explore the many facets of a country undergoing profound transformation. Munkhsaikhan DASHZEVEG – Master of the Morin Khuur & Overtone Singing An internationally acclaimed musician and overtone singer, Munkhsaikhan brings the spirit of the Mongolian steppe to audiences around the world, including performances at the World Economic Forum in Davos. His work combines ancient traditions, contemporary creativity, and a search for inner well-being. Each performance offers an immersive experience where music, emotion, and meditation become one. Nandinkhishig KHISHIGDUUREN – Traditional Dancer A representative of the younger generation dedicated to preserving Mongolia's cultural heritage, Nandinkhishig has performed the traditional dances of the Övörkhangai region since early childhood. Passionate about passing on ancestral knowledge, she also masters the traditional Mongolian script, a powerful symbol of the nation's identity. Through her performances, she brings this precious heritage to life with elegance, freshness, and enthusiasm. Programme 10:00 am – 12:00 pmContemporary Art Exhibition – Guided tour and meet-and-greet with a Mongolian artist. 12:00 pm – 1:00 pmPicnic Lunch (bring your own food), accompanied by live morin khuur music. 1:00 pm – 2:00 pmTalk & Discussion with the Shaman: Spiritual Traditions in Mongolia Today. At the same time (1:00 pm – 2:00 pm)Interactive Workshops: Traditional yurt assembly and dismantling, Mongolian board games, and knucklebone games for children and families. 2:00 pm – 3:00 pmFree time – Explore the venue, meet the artists, and enjoy informal discussions. 3:00 pm – 3:45 pmWorkshop & Demonstration: Introduction to Khuumii (Mongolian overtone singing). 4:00 pm – 5:00 pmIntroduction to "Bii Biyelgee", Mongolia's traditional dance. 5:00 pm – 6:00 pmBreak – Free visit and opportunities to meet the artists. 6:00 pm – 7:15 pmConcert & Live Performance: A painting created live during a performance of morin khuur and overtone singing, accompanied by projections of images from the Mongolian Steppe. 7:15 pm – 8:30 pmFree time and preparation for the ceremony. 8:30 pmTraditional Fire Ceremony, led by the shaman and her assistant. After the CeremonyCommunity Potluck Dinner (Canadian-style buffet).Everyone is invited to bring a savoury or sweet dish to share in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Private consultations with the shaman will also be available by advance reservation for an additional fee.
