La Bâtie - Festival de Genève
Artist, performer and DJ, Mayara Yamada hails from the Brazilian Amazon. After training as an actress at Casa de Artes das Laranjeiras and later studying Theatre Aesthetics and Theory at Unirio (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro), she graduated with an MA in Visual Arts from ECAL. Yamada has an enchanted alter ego, Marara Kelly, whose performances on stages across Switzerland are based on an overflowing, extravagant approach to bodies, sound and self. Four times now, the Marara Kelly Art Show has swept audiences into a sacred yet irreverent mythology, drawn from the cultural rituals of the Amazon and infused with a love of party and pleasure. She is the keeper of her childhood dreams. Now, in her final chapter, Marara Kelly returns as the captain of a fleet of hammocks, steering us into a multisensory voyage led by creatures of the night, of revelry and repose, towards a dream version of herself.
