“I dream of this piece as an antidote. To the rigidity of Western theatre with its hierarchies, timelines and power dynamics. Here, we’re in an intimate space. No stage. No tiers. Close to one another. A small audience. All on the same level. You choose your time slot. Like cinema screenings or fairground shows, the show takes place several times a day. And in this closeness, in this intimate setting, we revel in delicacy and extravagance, like the theyyam rituals of Kerala, where divine costumes both elevate and connect the performer to the people. Accompanied by entrancing songs – Ukrainian, Filipino, Sephardic – Думи мої* is a polyglot recital trapped inside a sculptural costume by Romain Brau. Dances, songs, images: impure and refined, intimate and immense.”— François ChaignaudWhen Geneva first discovered Думи мої at Festival Antigel in 2014, even the glass and porcelain of Musée Ariana held their breath…*Думи мої is pronounced “Dumy Moyi”.
