Description
From June 15 to November 16, 2025, the Fondation Opale presents BENEATH THE REFLECTIONS OF THE WORLD, an exhibition devoted to two outstanding figures in contemporary painting: Australian Aboriginal artist Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (1924-2015) and American painter Forrest Clemenger Bess (1911-1977). Separated by the oceans, these two artists share a common ability to bring out reflections of inner worlds, hidden beneath the surface of the visible. Sally Gabori and Forrest Bess, two self-taught artists with radically different backgrounds and careers, have explored their own personal visions of the world through painting. Their works, vibrant and imbued with symbolism, testify to an inseparable connection between memory, identity and landscape. Orchestrated by curator Samuel Gross and based on some fifty works, this exhibition offers an unprecedented dialogue, revealing the surprising parallels between their respective practices.
