Khalid Abdalla – known on screen for lead roles in The Kite Runner, The Crown and The Day of the Jackal – is also a dedicated activist, protesting against the occupation of Palestinian territories and for the release of Egyptian human rights defender and blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah. But Abdalla’s real life story unfolds in Nowhere, a solo performance rooted in the Egyptian revolution of 2011 and the counter-revolution that followed. This is a journey into the heart of his own story, set against a backdrop of seismic global events. From colonialism to decolonisation, from friendship to loss, from protest to uprising, and through to the enduring struggle for justice in Gaza, Khalid Abdalla weaves the personal with the political in a compelling “anti-biography” that asks how we got here – and how we find our place in the tangled threads of history. Welcome to Nowhere.
