Hurdy-Gurdy Workshop with Gilles Chabenat On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, we are delighted to welcome Gilles Chabenat for two days entirely dedicated to the hurdy-gurdy at the Henosis Cultural Centre. Nestled in a peaceful green setting, this exceptional venue provides the perfect environment for concentration, exchange, and musical practice. A true haven of tranquillity, the Henosis Cultural Centre offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in music, away from the distractions of everyday life, in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. Over the course of these two days, participants will benefit from the teaching of a musician renowned for the richness of his artistic journey and his unique approach to the hurdy-gurdy. For several decades, Gilles Chabenat has explored the instrument through traditional repertoires, contemporary music, jazz, and blues, continually expanding its expressive possibilities. The Workshop During this workshop, Gilles Chabenat will share his experience and vision of the instrument through work that is at once technical, musical, and deeply expressive. Participants will explore several fundamental aspects of hurdy-gurdy playing, including instrument setup and adjustment, mastery of wrist techniques, scales and modes, ornamentation, dynamics, accents, and musical phrasing. Particular attention will also be given to the diversity of playing styles and their combinations, including legato, staccato, independent rhythmic playing, and other techniques that enrich musical expression. These concepts will be approached in a practical way through accessible melodies, studied and developed collectively throughout the workshop. Whether you wish to refine your technique, deepen your musical expression, or discover new approaches to playing, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the full richness of the hurdy-gurdy alongside one of the leading artists on today’s musical scene.
