For girls aged between 12 and 16   Workshop "Cosmic SOS” at CERN     Wednesday 31 May 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM   Discover how particle detectors are used in experiments at CERN — and even in space —through an exciting adventure game! Space missions and particle physics have a lot in common: both use advanced technology that can survive extreme conditions and process huge amounts of data—even in space! In fact, a detector from CERN is on board the International Space Station. In this interactive workshop, you’ll solve puzzles while exploring the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to gamma rays. You’ll learn how scientists detect invisible radiation and discover how these technologies are used in space, medicine, and everyday life, including natural radiation around us.   IMPORTANT: --> MEETING TIME: 1:45 PM --> MEETING POINT: At the main entrance of the CERN Science GatewayMeeting point map   Address : CERN Science GatewayEsplanade des Particules 1 CH-1217 Meyrin   Please note that parking in the area is limited and can be difficult to find.   CERN website   Depending on availability, some parents may be allowed to accompany the girls. This decision will be made on site.   Suggestion: Parents are welcome to explore the CERN Science Gateway with their children before or after the workshop—entry is free for everyone.   CERN visits and activities are offered free of charge. Ticket fees contribute to supporting the operations of the Elargis tes Horizons association.   This activity is organised by Elargis tes Horizons (ETH). As a not-for-profit association, we are dedicated to providing girls with experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Around 10 times a year, we offer scientific activities or visits in the Geneva region. They are usually held on Wednesday afternoons and are open to girls aged between 10 and 18.
