DHRUPAD - Indian Vocal and Instrumental Music - Concerts - Henosis

Description

The trio brings together Heikel Ben Mlouka and Mathias Durand on vocals, accompanied by Alexis Weisgerber on pakhawaj. Rooted in the tradition of Dhrupad, the oldest form of North Indian classical music, the musicians have studied this demanding discipline under masters of the tradition, notably the Gundecha Brothers in Bhopal and Pandit Rajshekhar Vyas in Udaipur, following the oral transmission of the gurushishya parampara. Their practice is grounded in the patient cultivation of voice, listening, and microtonality. Through the exploration of a raga, they unfold a deeply meditative art of improvisation in which the voices merge into the continuous resonance of the tanpura. The pakhawaj, an ancestral percussion instrument with deep bass tones and rich harmonics, punctuates and supports the musical development. The listener is thus invited into a contemplative sonic space where time seems to expand, conducive to inner listening.
