Pandit Iman Das is a prestigious vocalist of the Patiala gharana, known for his soulful renditions in various genres such as thumri, ghazal, bhajan, and semi-classical music. Born into a musical family in Kolkata, he was influenced from a young age by legendary figures like his great-aunt, the renowned exponent of Nazrulgeeti, Shrimati Purabi Dutta, and his paternal uncle, the Pakhawaj master Pandit Rajiblochan Dey. His musical training was guided by renowned maestros such as Shri Ajoy Dhar, Shrimati Sumona Dhar, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya, and Pandit Kalyan Basu, who shaped his vocal style and approach to Hindustani classical music, particularly the Patiala gharana. Pandit Iman Das has been honored by the Government of Karnataka for his outstanding contributions to classical music, receiving several awards, including a national recognition. For over two decades, he has been a prominent figure in the classical music scene, performing at festivals and concerts in India and internationally, in countries such as the UK, UAE, Australia, and Austria. His performances have been acclaimed at prestigious venues such as the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, the All Bengal Music Conference in Kolkata, and various international festivals. Based in Bengaluru, Pandit Iman Das leads the Omkar Music Academy, where he trains over 150 students in the traditions of Hindustani classical music. He also organizes events like the Omkar Music Festival and the Madhur Dhwani concert series, aimed at promoting classical music in modern spaces and making the art form accessible to a broader audience. His work as a mentor is crucial to the next generation of musicians, and he has made Bengaluru a hub for classical music in India. In addition to his performing career, Pandit Iman Das is also an innovative composer. He has created works such as the raga Swarnadesi, performed at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, and the Urche Bangla project, a celebration of the Bengali community in Bengaluru. He has also contributed to the soundtrack of the Bollywood film Qala, adding a classical touch to the movie. As an author, he has published One Nation, One Music, a book that explores India's musical unity through its diverse traditions. Pandit Iman Das is a central figure in contemporary Hindustani classical music, seamlessly blending tradition and modernity in his creations, performances, and teachings.
